They are easy to take care, and when treated with an occasional bit of tender love and care can last a very long time.

Natural sheepskin provides an elegant texture to your home and brings a luxurious touch to an old piece of furniture or a modern item perking up any interior design theme.

Redecorating ?? Don’t worry, the natural hues in these rugs mix and match with any scheme, the rugs add texture to wooden floors, and a softness to open spaces

Sophistication, comfort, and quality for your living space.

Step out of bed onto soft sumptuous sheepskins, or have one in your favourite chair, there really is nothing quite like it to give you a feeling of well being.

Rugs look particularly good on stone and ceramic wood floors. Use on the end of beds, drape over armchairs, outdoor benches, they are easily portable and light yet give far more insulation than man made fibres. Just roll up and go!

The tactile nature of our stunning soft, deep pile sheepskins means you won’t be able to put them down.

Sheepskins being naturally anti bacterial work surprisingly well as picnic rugs, they also work well as baby changing mats and medical cushions, the moisture handling comes into its own on long journeys or when confined to a bed or wheelchair, give it a shake and they are reloaded!

Let your imagination with your soft furnishings run wild, you will never tire of these opulent rugs

Apart from sitting next to a log fire in the winter, I can’t think of any one thing that makes me feel more cosy than the natural quality of a sheepskin.

So why choose sheepskin over a synthetic rug?

Unlike faux counterparts, sheepskin rugs contain lanolin, a super substance of wool which helps to soothe the skin and is also extremely hydrating, meaning sheepskin rugs are a good choice for anyone with a skin condition. Whilst they may look similar to start with man made fibres have no longevity and will quickly need replacing or look dirty/ worn, neither does a man made rug give any of the antibacterial and warming/cooling properties of genuine wool. A sheepskin will be your friend and give you a warm hug for many years.

Not only are man made fibres derived from oil, but they also lack the heat and moisture handling properties of natural sheepskin. Sheepskin is flame retardant. Polyesters are fuel, the difference between the two couldn’t be greater.

Plastic fabrics break up, rather than breaking down like organic matter. Each time a man made fabric is flexed, it sheds, and millions of tiny plastic microfibres end up in our air, water and food. Microfibers are found In almost every living being on earth, whereas sheepskins are 100% biodegradable.

Our natural wool rugs are sourced from the finest quality sheepskins and ooze quality, style and softness.

Remember that the wonderful ‘super fibre’ wool has all these benefits:

  • Regulates temperature
  • Contains lanolin which kills bacteria whilst helping provide insulation
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Durable
  • Naturally antibacterial

What is it about wool that works so well to wick away water?

Wool fibre absorbs up to 30% of its own weight in water

Wool is a hygroscopic fibre. As the humidity of the surrounding air rises and falls the fibre absorbs and releases water vapour. Heat is generated and retained during the absorption phase which makes wool a natural insulator. Used in the home wool insulation helps to reduce energy costs and prevents loss of energy, reducing carbon emissions (similarly it keeps a home cool in the summer) “Campaign for wool”

Sheepskin in hot weather:

Sheepskin has fabulous insulating properties that work in both hot and cold weather! Commonly associated with warmth and cosiness in winter, there are some surprising benefits when it comes to staying cool in the summer!

Wool gives a natural temperature regulation.

In a warm climate the wool has a temperature regulator -by wicking away moisture and allowing air to flow freely between the skin and the material. This helps prevent excess sweating and allows the body to cool down more efficiently. This is why wool pram and buggy liners, plus wool wheel chair liners are so hygienic and comfortable and the best anti bacterial liner you can use.

Fibres in sheepskin have a unique structure that allows them to absorb and release moisture. This helps keep the skin dry and reduces discomfort. Unlike synthetic materials that can trap moisture, sheepskin allows skin to breathe making it a great choice for hot and humid weather.

Did you know the Berber tribe wear a light wool inner layer in hot desert conditions to help keep them cool and dry?

Sheepskin slippers, gloves and hats also allow for airflow, preventing the build up of moisture and providing a cooling sensation for your body whilst keeping it cozy in cold times. Wool is odour resistant,  (unlike synthetic slippers which have to be thrown away due to odour you will not find that problem with wool slippers !!) No socks needed – let the wool do the work and look after your feet hygienically and in comfort.

So, although sheepskin is often associated with winter warmth it has surprising qualities that make it a super material in hot weather as well.

Another fantastic benefit of natural sheepskin is its ability to relieve pain and discomfort. Natural wool fibres offer cushioned support which can help to distribute pressure evenly across the body, reducing the strain on joints and muscles. Particularly helpful for those humans and pets who suffer from arthritis or back pain

Naturally resistant to dust, bugs, mould. Wool wicks away moisture meaning growth of bacteria is less likely.  Wool is resistant to static electricity and resistant to flame.

Sheepskin is also calming, just stroke the fur, like you would stroke a pet, its incredibly therapeutic!

Sheepskins can be slept on, to clean just shake, those suffering from joint and bone pain may find this beneficial, relieving pressure on joints, whilst regulating the bodies temperature.

Laying on a sheepskin in summer does NOT make you hot it just makes you cool and comfy!

Sheepskin takes pressure off limbs by distributing weight from the absorbed pressure evenly throughout the body. Each fibre in a sheepskin is naturally crimped, with each one containing a spiralling crimp which effectively works like a spring. This creates the illusion of a cushion, making the rugs one of the most comfy textiles in the world to sit or lie on.

Allowing the body to stay at a regular temperature helps to develop better blood circulation which is extremely useful for some of the older generation and those who remain more static.

For the elderly a sheepskin is ideal hygienic comfort for chairs, and can be used in the bottom of the bed inside the bed clothes to rest feet on which will relieve pressure on joints whilst providing insulation or cooling.

For thousands of years sheep have been our best friends. Being the earliest animals to be domesticated. For many centuries sheepskin and wool has been used by ancient cultures including the Greeks Romans and Vikings. Warmth and protection against the elements was vital, and also the cooling properties were needed for the hotter seasons.

This original super fibre is now seeing a revival as we all try to use sustainable & biodegradable non synthetic materials.

Our sheepskin rugs help reduce pollution and bacteria in your living space.

I hope that explains our passion for wool sheepskin rugs and detailed some of the science behind it all. We hope you will share in our delight of this natural and wonderful product.
