Care of your sheepskin

Caring is easy for this super fibre natural product.

The robust and naturally hard wearing nature of wool means there is little time needed.

Simply shake the rug (outside)  to loosen debris and dirt.

Sheepskin rugs have a built in natural barrier protecting them from outside elements and benefit from vigorous shaking which will help maintain and restore the natural soft appearance.   The  soft texture of the hair means it shakes out easily.

Brush the rug in the natural direction of the hair to keep it looking at its best.

This is the most care that many rugs will ever need!

Do NOT brush or rub whilst damp, as it can damage the surface.

Just let the rug dry naturally (wool quickly wicks away moisture) and then brush once completely dry.

Sheepskin  can also be vacuumed occasionally , on medium  suction using a standard nozzle attachment only –  NEVER use a rotating vacuum head attachment as this could tear out the wool fibres from the hide.   A sheepskin rug brush or pet brush can be used to straighten out the fleece and to stop  the wool fibres matting. Brush in the direction of the fibres.

Whilst some rugs may state that they can be machine washed we advise against this method, to protect the longevity and feel/look of your rug we recommend spot washing if there is a spillage.

The majority of marks/spots of dirt can be removed with a good shake and brush. If there is a spillage we recommend dabbing the moisture off with kitchen towel , or a cloth, and leaving to dry naturally.   Then shake and brush.

Only use a gentle  detergent (a little hair shampoo in water works well) where absolutely necessary to remove a stubborn mark, and only wash the precise area that is necessary.

If you do decide to do a full wash, wash by hand, in very cool water using suitable wool detergent or gentle shampoo. Immerse the rug for 10 minutes and gently agitate. Rinse well in cold running water until all soap has gone. roll the rug  up and gently press down to remove excess water, then wrap in a towel and again press down to remove any remaining water that you can.  Leave the rug to dry naturally, not in direct heat or hot sunshine, turning to let air flow over both the hide and the wool fibres. Once completely dry  give it a good brush in the direction of the fibres .  Do not brush whilst still damp.

By treating your rug with respect, just like a pet  it will give many happy years of  loyal service to your home.
