Our Cornish fisherman’s jumpers are a classic Guernsey-style knit and are not only Atlantic Shore’s own label but are also, proudly, 100% British wool. **NEW IN, SADDLEWORTH GREY** We’re currently awaiting more S & M sizes which are being knitted as we speak! Our delivery of these is due towards mid/end of June 2025.
Made by our skilled knitters, a 5 gauge stitch is used. This results in a tightly knitted garment which helps in making it weatherproof and comfortable to wear for work or leisure.

Please note that the Cornish fisherman’s jumpers are designed to be longer in length. This helps to allow movement around the shoulders as they are a working fisherman’s jumper; therefore they’re generous in sizing. If in doubt between which size is needed, we suggest downsizing by one size.

The History of Knitting in Cornwall
Cornwall used to have a thriving knitting industry with each fishing port or even families having their own unique pattern for their ‘Cornish Gansey Jumpers’. The Industry was lead by Cornish fisher wives. Like the Guernseys from the Channel Islands, the Cornish ‘Gansey’ incorporated the pattern on both the back and front of the garment. The thinking behind this was that if your elbows wore through you simply turned the jumper around! Times were tough and garments needed to have as long a life as possible. Another reason for individual patterns was sadly the need for identification when fisherman were lost at sea; your home port would be recognised from the pattern.
Cornish Guernsey’s come with a complimentary leaflet printed on premium paper detailing their history. This makes a great addition to your jumper if you are buying it as a gift!
